Go eco for your baby's best!

Just came across some very interesting reading. Im studying for my Phytotherapy class this weekend, and last time we talked a lot about harmful chemicals.
Personally I'd rather spend all my money on organic/non-toxic/environmentally friendly items for my baby, making sure she gets exposed to as little of harmful chemicals as possible, than buy things for myself. I dont want to have to give my baby medicines later on in life due to problems she might suffer, caused by an overdose of some sort of chemical coctail.

Here's some reading for all you mommys and mommys-to-be:

You can also read the whole report from the Danish Environmental Protection Agency here:

The first link is in swedish and the second one's in danish. But you can use Google Translate for that!

They talk about all the chemicals a "normal" baby get exposed to on a day-to-day basis, from toys, clothes, environment, cleaning supplies, detergent, soap/schampoo etc etc. The scary part is that the report does not include toxins from food (pesticides etc). Add that and you get an even worse coctail. Why expose your baby to that?

Here are some of my tips for making your babys environment safer and healthier:

  • Organic food (you've seen me write about that before, but it's so god damn important that it needs to be said over and over again)
  • Organic/environmentally friendly toys (EkoLeko is a great swedish site, but just google around and you'll find a whole bunch of them)
  • Organic/environmentally friendly clothes (you think "regular" baby clothes are safe? Think again. Clothes today contains a lot of chemicals to for example prevent mold build up. And using 100% cotton doesen't help either. Cotton goes through sort of a "cleaning" process when being prepared, where it for example gets bleached, a process not very good for mother nature. To that they add all sorts of dye that contains chemicals that are harmful for all and everyone. Add anti-mold chemicals and you've got yourself a pretty nice coctail...)
  • Organic/environmentally friendly bedding (same reasoning as for the clothes. I sure dont want my baby sleeping in an environment surrounded by all sorts of harmful chemicals)
  • Bottles/pacifiers with zero chemicals and harmful BPA. Ask around and Google, you'll find a whole bunch of these online!
  • Use organic/non-toxic detergent (like Eco Balls. They're great!). What you use to wash your and your babys clothes stay in them, toxins and chemicals gets soaked up by the skin.
  • Use only organic/environmentally friendly soap when cleaning (like swedish "såpa"). Mix with water in a spray bottle and use wherever you normally would use harsh cleaning supplies like "Mr Muscle" etc. You dont need those nasty chemicals in your house and around your baby. The chemicals stay on the surface that you've cleaned, and we all know babies usually gets around everywhere when they start moving around. Needless to say the chemicals gets in to the air as well...
  • Use only organic/environmentally friendly soaps/shampoo/lotions etc. What goes on your body also gets in to your body, the same goes for your baby. So if your soaps/shampoo/lotions contains for example parabens, they will eventually get in to the body causing a lot of damage. What you dont want to eat you shouldnt put on your body! You can read more about the damages caused by parabens here. They dont do very good things to your uterus, all you pregnant women...
